NFL Power Rankings: Niners prove worthy

TW LW Team Our Take 1 3
(10-3) Colin Kaepernick's performance against the Pats once again proved Jim Harbaugh made the right decision. Somehow, however, the top team in the league just can't beat the Rams. 2 1
(10-4) Amazing effort by Tom Brady to rally the Pats back, but unfortunately it wasn't enough. Luckily, New England won?t have to see the Niners again until the Super Bowl. 3 2
(11-3) Denver have won nine in a row and are on their way to a first-round bye. The Broncos have become one of the most complete teams in the league. 4 4
(12-2) J.J. Watt picked up another 3.5 sacks as the Texans secured the division title. With 19.5 sacks, Watt has had a historic season for a 3-4 defensive end. 5 6
(12-2) The Falcons showed how dominant they can be at the Georgia Dome. Lucky for Matt Ryan and company, it looks like the NFC playoffs will go through Atlanta. 6 5
(10-4) Without any semblance of a running game and a pourous offensive line, Aaron Rodgers continues to get it done for the Packers. He really doesn't get enough credit. 7 8
(9-5) All of a sudden, Russell Wilson and the Seahawks look like a powerhouse on offence. No team has put up 50-plus points in consecutive weeks since 1950. 8 11
(8-6) Kirk Cousins filled in admirably again as the Redskins won their fifth straight. They would be best served giving Cousins another start with the Eagles next on their schedule. 9 7
(8-6) The inconsistency is troubling, but the Giants remain a team no one wants to see in January. With that secondary, however, they may not be able to hang around. 10 9
(9-5) The Colts are in great shape for the future but, right now, they just can't hang with the big boys. The offensive line and overall depth remains a major concern at this point. 11 12
(8-6) Quietly, Tony Romo has won three straight games in December. Their playoff hopes could come down to the Week 17 matchup with the Redskins in Washington. 12 11
(9-5) To quote Tom Petty, the Ravens are free falling. Even with a new offensive coordinator, the Ravens couldn't figure out how to get the ball to Ray Rice. 13 13
(8-6) Andy Dalton hasn?t been all that impressive lately. Who have I been impressed by? Blooming superstar defensive tackle Geno Atkins. 14 16
(8-6) Considering their quarterback play, it's been sensational Adrian Peterson has the Vikings in the playoff race. AP is having one of the all-time great seasons. 15 14
(8-6) Remember when the Bears were 7-1? Now they're on the verge of missing the playoffs. Luckily they play Arizona and Detroit the last two weeks. 16 15
(7-7) The Steelers just don't look like a team that can do some damage in January. Playoff teams don't lose to Cleveland, Oakland and Tennessee. 17 21
(6-8) This was the Drew Brees and Saints team we expected to see all year. Even Steve Spagnuolo's defence showed up for the first time all season. 18 22
(5-9) Cam Newton and the Panthers are hitting their stride. Unfortunately, it took the Panthers being mathematically eliminated from the postseason for it to happen. 19 17
(6-7) Like everyone else in the league, the Rams couldn't contain Adrian Peterson. At least they were able to keep the dwindling Christian Ponder in check. 20 24
(6-8) They may not be winning but the Dolphins are on the right track. Miami appears to have found their quarterback and have the salary cap space and draft picks to rebuild their offence. 21 18
(6-8) The wheels are falling off in Tampa. Players are reportedly questioning the coaching staff and Josh Freeman's play has been atrocious the last two weeks. 22 20
(5-9) The Browns had no answer for Kirk Cousins and the Redskins offence. They've made a lot of progress this year but at some point they have to beat a legitimate opponent. 23 19
(5-9) You have to expect the Chargers bring in a new GM and coach next season. The bigger question is what they'll do with struggling quarterback Philip Rivers. 24 25
(5-9) Did they watch any film last week? They looked confused and ill-prepared to handle Russell Wilson and the zone-read option all day at the Rogers Centre. 25 28
(5-9) Still wonder if they should've stuck with Matt Hasselbeck all season. Jake Locker doesn?t look the like the answer right now. 26 23
(6-8) Can anyone figure out why they traded for Tim Tebow? At least Rex Ryan finally pulled the plug on Mark Sanchez. 27 31
(5-9) It only took nine weeks but the Cardinals finally got their fifth win. The defence can create some havoc but they really need to find to their next quarterback. 28 26
(4-10) After the pathetic showing in Arizona, it looks like the Lions have given up this season. Outside of Calvin Johnson's record, there's nothing left for them to play for. 29 30
(4-10) The Raiders somehow were able to pick up a shutout. If only they could play Brady Quinn every week. 30 27
(4-10) If that sad display Thursday night didn't seal Andy Reid's fate in Philly, I don't know what will. 31 29
(2-12) Chad Henne's return to Miami showed why the Dolphins got rid of him in the first place. 32 32
(2-12) It's gotten so bad in Kansas City, the fans are clamouring for Ricky Stanzi.
