In response to the catastrophic, immoral war in Afghanistan and the ceaseless epidemic of military suicides, active-duty U.S. troops along with Iraq and Afghanistan veterans have launched a nation-wide campaign to educate and assist service members in their right to refuse to fight.
The founders of the campaign are war resisters and active-duty service members who are currently refusing to participate in the war any longer.
This campaign is called ?Our Lives, Our Rights.? Its purpose is to reach-out to service members throughout the entire U.S. military in everyway we can?passing out flyers on bases, sending care packages, building an online and media presence, creating organizing teams in military units, and more?to spread the message that the officers and politicians do not care about our lives, and that we have rights as service members. Above all, we hold that the most fundamental right we have is to refuse to deploy to the absurd, immoral war in Afghanistan.
As the politicians lie and stumble over themselves to explain why we must endlessly occupy Afghanistan, and while the generals refuse to address the criminal negligence for troops with PTSD, countless lives are literally being thrown away. It's a critical time for service members to know about their rights and how to exercise them.
Thousands of U.S. service members today qualify to become Conscientious Objectors, whether or not they have deployed before, entitling them to be exempt from deployment and a discharge with full benefits. Others who are compelled to go AWOL also have legal rights and options. Those with psychological trauma, diagnosed or not, have the right to demand adequate treatment and exemption from deployment. But these rights are unknown to most?so we want to make sure all service members know with this campaign.
Those who resist the war or advocate for their interests can face harassment, intimidation and denial of rights by their chain of command, or need help properly exercising their rights. This campaign will provide a community of support from other service members and veterans, expose mistreatment by the chain of command, and assist service members in the process.
We believe this campaign has the potential to save the lives of scores of U.S. service members and present a real challenge to the generals and politicians who are orchestrating the destruction of so many lives at home and abroad. To maximize the potential of the campaign, we need your help.

Chris Kluwe, 30, is a punter entering his eighth year with the Minnesota Vikings. He has done three radio ads for Minnesotans for Equality, opposed to a November ballot initiative in the state that would change the state constitution to define marriage only between a man and a woman.
Outspoken and articulate, Kluwe talked with me about why he is passionate about the issue, what it means to be a family and how a gay player would fit in the culture of the NFL.
Outsports: How did you get involved in the fight in Minnesota against the marriage amendment?
Kluwe: Someone contacted me on Twitter [from Minnesotans for Equality] and asked if I?d be interested. I said yes. I?ve always believed that people are inherently the same and should have the same rights and equal protection under the law. It really doesn?t matter what you do with who or whom as long as you?re not infringing on someone else?s rights. Everyone should be free to live their own life however it makes them happy.
Outsports: You?ve cut three radio ads so far. How involved are you going to get in this?
Kluwe: We did three of them and hopefully they?ll release the last two in a week or so. Whatever else they want me to do, I?m more than happy to speak up about it.

Outsports: In the 30-second ad, you referenced families a lot. Families are the thing thrown at supporters of gay marriage because we?re told we have to protect the traditional family. Was that a conscious decision on your part to mention family several times?
Kluwe: I had some input in writing it and I wanted to make sure it was something that would resonate with people. I don?t think a lot of people realize that family is family. It doesn?t matter who you are; the people you grow up with, that?s your family. If you find out your kid is gay, are you going to love him any less? Because if you do, then you?re probably not doing parenting for the right reasons.
One of my wife?s brothers is gay and I know him and his partner [who live in California] would love to get married but they can?t.
Outsports: Do you have close friends who are gay?
Kluwe: None that I know of. Honestly, I?ve never really asked anyone. I?m more interested in if you?re going to play video games with me! Honestly, I don?t care. People don?t ask me what goes on in my bedroom and I try and give them the same privilege.
Outsports: Do you still think you?d be involved in this issue if you didn?t have a relation who was gay?
Kluwe: I would definitely still be signing up for it. One of the things my parents [Ron and Sandy] brought me up with is that you should have equality for everyone. I would like to think I have a pretty strong sense of justice and right and wrong. [The proposed marriage amendment] is just blatant discrimination and that?s not right, that?s wrong. ?
One of the best things parents can teach their children is to have the courage to go out and find your own answers in life. While we can give you a framework, it?s up to you to live your own life.

Outsports: How do see the issue in Minnesota playing out right now?
Kluwe: I see a slight edge right now among people who want to defeat it. Unfortunately, we?re going to have to wait to see if the people who want to have it pass resort to the kinds of fear tactics they generally use. ?If the gays marry, civilization is going to be ruined! It will be the downfall of everything!? Unfortunately, that seems to work with a lot of people because it hits that gut, instinctual emotional level ? rather than thinking it through and realizing it?s a specious argument.
Outsports: How do you see raising your two children in terms of acceptance?
Kluwe: Making sure they know that people are people and it doesn?t matter what you look like or what you believe in. Judge people on what they do, not what they say. You can proclaim anything you want, but your actions will show people who you really are.
Outsports: Switching to football, have you ever played with a teammate in high school, college (UCLA) or the pros (Minnesota Vikings) who you knew was gay?
Kluwe: No one I knew for a fact was gay, mainly because the locker room culture is the locker room culture. It?s a very tough environment for someone who?s gay to come out in.
I think people are growing more tolerant, as the younger generation has been raised to believe that being gay isn?t a bad thing. As more and more of those guys are getting into the locker room, I think it?s definitely becoming more tolerant.
It?s going to be really hard for someone to come out until someone does it at the professional level, because that will give that Jackie Robinson-type example that hey, it?s OK to do that. I would be completely supportive of a teammate who did that because when it comes down to it, it doesn?t matter your sexual orientation, it matters can you help us win on Sunday. That?s the only thing that matters in the locker room.
Outsports: Do you think it would be possible on the Vikings for someone under the right circumstances to come out publicly?
Kluwe: Yeah, I think it would. It would have to be someone who?s courageous and strong enough to withstand the inevitable abuse and insults that will come their way. It?s not going to be easy. But inside the locker room, I would do my part to make it as welcoming an environment as I could and I would definitely speak up if anyone tried to do anything negative there.
Outsports: What is it about the culture of the locker room that makes it not conducive to someone being open about their sexual orientation?
Kluwe: It?s a very machismo-type football culture. The past 100 years of football have been about it being a guys-guy sport and you have to shrug everything off and you could never show weakness. For a lot of people, they were raised that being gay is either a weakness or a sin, so it?s tough for a lot of guys to get past that kind of cultural conditioning.
But I think views are changing and I think they?ve changed enough to where I think that while it would be tough to come out,? there would be support there.
Outsports: If a Viking came out, he would be the same person but all you guys would know would be one new fact about him, so why would it be an issue?
Kluwe: I think for a lot of guys it?s just the uncomfortable side. They?re a little self-absorbed enough to think that, ?Hey, is this guy going to be checking me out in the shower all the time?,? when he might not even be his type. You tend to think about yourself first and how it relates to you, as opposed to, ?Hey, he?s still the same guy. He?s been showering with me before, he hasn?t done anything.? It?s not like all of a sudden there?s gonna be orgies in the middle of the locker room.
I?ve seen it become less rigid in terms of guys being tolerant, but it?s still tough because there is that football background to everything.
Outsports: Do you hear gay slurs either in the locker room or on the field, such as fag, faggot or queer?
Kluwe: I used to but I think that?s one of the things that?s changed due to culture in general the past 15 years. I know growing up as a teenager, that [fag] was one of the swear words you used with your friends because you thought it was a bad word but you never thought about the hurtful implications. But now people know it?s not just like bitch or ass that you can throw around ? it?s a lot more hurtful.
I definitely hear it a lot less than I did growing up. But that being said, there?s still some guys that use it. I haven?t anyone use it in a serious manner, it?s more they use it because they?re used to using it. I?ll call someone out if I hear someone saying it. ? Also, it does appeal more to a teenage mindset than an adult mindset.
Outsports: Do players gossip about players they think might be gay?
Kluwe: Nothing serious but you will get some guys that say ?He uses a lot of hair products and conditioners, what?s he hiding?? But the thing is you don?t know.
It?s not like people are coming over to my house in the middle of the night to make sure I am sleeping with my wife instead of other guys in the league. Unless someone comes out,? it would be really hard for guys to make a definitive statement that another guy is gay. There?s no flashing sign above your head saying gay or not gay. How you choose to present yourself, you can present yourself as either straight or gay.
There?s probably guys in the league who think that I?m probably gay because of the position I play and the stances I take, but my wife would probably beg to differ. Special teams, we?re kind of the bottom of the totem pole. As a special teams player, a lot of people don?t really consider you to be a football player even though you?re out there helping your team win and practicing like everybody else.
Outsports: How would Vikings fans react to an openly gay player?
Kluwe: I think fans would be OK with it. There?s a rich football tradition in Minnesota and while there are some people who would let their prejudice get the better of them, as a whole the state is fairly understanding when it comes to stuff like that. It?s a pretty liberal state and I think there would be a lot of support from fans if a player came out and he could play. What the fans want is for the team to win, so it doesn?t matter what your sexual orientation is ? can you help the team win?
Outsports: Do you think in the next decade, you will see an openly gay player?
Kluwe: I think we will due to the fact that the subject is coming up more and more not just in politics but in sports.
Outsports: Any last thoughts?
Kluwe: For me, it?s always been about justice and doing what?s right. People should treat each other the way they want to be treated and that?s basically what life boils down to.

True, the methods of winning a tattoo design contest arent difficult, but they demand accuracy. When a designer enters a custom tattoo design contest, he works with the contest host, who is on the lookout for a never-before-seen tattoo design. The manner in which the artist enters the contest and responds to it will decide whether or not he is capable of winning it.
The first rule of a custom tattoo contest is that the design entry should be absolutely original. Cisco won't be the fastest out of the gate with an 802.11ac WiFi router, but it's certainly one of the most ambitious. The dual-band Linksys EA6500 and a companion, single-band Universal Media Connector network bridge hike the bandwidth up to 802.11ac's 1.3Gbps peak, each of them carrying their own quartet of gigabit Ethernet jacks. A pair of USB ports on the EA6500 should make sharing storage that much faster as well. If you ask Cisco, however, the real highlight is the new Cisco Connect Cloud app platform. Not unlike Novatel's MiFi apps, the software helps either manage the router itself (think parental controls) or tap into other devices around the home, including AirPlay sharing and remote camera monitoring. There's even a new SimpleTap hardware integration platform that will pair third-party WiFi gear like Onkyo receivers to a router through Android and iOS smartphone apps. Eventually, that should include a gentle NFC-based nudge.
A Linksys Developer Community is starting now with six app developers already lined up, and support is due for any access point Cisco deems worthy of the Smart Wi-Fi Router name. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ? A judge late Tuesday ordered Samsung Electronics Co. to halt sales of its Galaxy 10.1 tablet computer while the court considers Apple's claim the South Korean tech giant illegally copied the design of the popular iPad.
U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh said Apple Inc.'s lawsuit appeared likely to prevail.
"Apple has established a strong case on the merits," Koh said.
Koh had earlier said the two products are "virtually indistinguishable," but she declined in December to take the dramatic step of prohibiting sales of the Galaxy 10.1. She changed her mind after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit told Koh to take another look at Apple's request for an injunction, ruling June 19 that it appeared the Cupertino-based company had a strong case. The Washington, D.C., court handles most patent appeals.
"Although Samsung has a right to compete, it does not have a right to compete unfairly, by flooding the market with infringing products," Koh wrote in her Tuesday order. She said Apple would be "irreparably harmed" if sales of the Galaxy 10.1 continued.
Samsung representatives didn't respond to email requests for comment late Tuesday.
Koh ordered Apple to post a $2.6 million bond in case it ultimately loses the case.
The ruling is a small part of a much larger patent battle between the two tech giants, who are scheduled to go to trial next month in San Jose.
Apple filed its lawsuit last year, and the two companies are enmeshed in patent disputes around the globe revolving around smartphones and handheld computers. Samsung, with its Android-powered products, has emerged as one of Apple's chief rivals.
Apple also accuses the South Korean company of infringing patents related to the iPhone. Apple is seeking a similar injunction barring Samsung from selling one of its smartphones in the United States.

Her promotion comes as Facebook seeks to cultivate a more mature image as opposed to the college dorm-room startup reputation that has dogged the company since Harvard dropout Mark Zuckerberg founded it in 2004.
"Sheryl has been my partner in running Facebook and has been central to our growth and success over the years," Zuckerberg, 28, said in a statement. "Her understanding of our mission and long-term opportunity, and her experience both at Facebook and on public company boards makes her a natural fit for our board."
Still, even after Facebook elevated Sandberg on Monday, the composition of its board remains a continuing point of scrutiny for a young company that has touched countless industries and boasts close to a billion users from every corner of the world.
The California State Teachers' Retirement System, the second-largest largest pension fund in the United States, which owns 36,922 shares of Facebook, applauded Sandberg's promotion, but urged the company to "continue diversifying the board toward greater independence and representation of the Company's user base."
Apart from Sandberg, the company's board is made up of seven Caucasian men, largely Silicon Valley insiders aligned closely with Zuckerberg. They include Zuckerberg himself; venture capitalists James W. Breyer, Marc Andreessen and Peter Thiel; Washington Post Co chairman, Donald E. Graham; Netflix CEO Reed Hastings; and Erskine Bowles, a former White House chief of staff and the University of North Carolina president emeritus.
"We are optimistic Facebook is on its way to further expanding the board while simultaneously creating the diversity and independence we think is important to the future sustainability of this vibrant company," said Jack Ehnes, CEO of the California State Teachers' Retirement System. But, he added, "We're not there yet."
Prior to joining Facebook to lead its business operations, Sandberg worked at Google, where she was credited with building the search advertising division into a massively lucrative cornerstone of the web giant's business.
She has been tasked with stoking similar growth at Facebook, which claimed $3.7 billion in revenue last year, but is under pressure to justify its $70 billion valuation in the public markets.
At the same time, Facebook hopes the promotion of one of corporate America's most high-profile women will go some way to allay over its own gender issues, especially given Sandberg's advocacy on the subject.
In February, before Facebook went public, the teachers' retirement system openly urged the company to diversify its board to include women and said then the makeup of the all-male panel was "disappointing."
In April, the women's rights group UltraViolet held a protest outside Facebook's New York offices over the same issue.
The Menlo Park-based company faced embarrassment as recently as last week when the Wall Street Journal published advance excerpts of a memoir by Katherine Losse, an early employee, who recounted being harassed and propositioned by male co-workers until Sandberg intervened when she came onboard.
In recent years, Sandberg's clout within Facebook has been unquestioned while she has also served as its public face, often in place of the sometimes socially-awkward Zuckerberg, who has focused on improving Facebook's product.
Meanwhile, Sandberg has represented the company at events like the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where she led a panel on women's advancement in January.
A former chief of staff to Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers during the Clinton administration, Sandberg holds seats on the board of Walt Disney Co and several non-profit organizations.
"Facebook is working every day to make the world more open and connected," she said in a statement. "It's a mission that I'm deeply passionate about and I feel fortunate to be part of a company that is having such a profound impact in the world."
Under Sandberg's stewardship, Facebook navigated its rocky IPO in May, but still faces a litany of growing pains, chief among them are its regular brushes with privacy controversies that threaten to erode the eight year-old service's popularity.
On Monday, the social network was again subject to fresh accusations that it had tampered with user privacy by changing the email contact listed for every user to a facebook.com address without notification.
Facebook defended the move, saying it was part of a broader, earlier effort to enhance "consistency" to the service.
"As we announced back in April, we've been updating addresses on Facebook to make them consistent across our site," a Facebook spokeswoman said. "In addition to everyone receiving an address, we're also rolling out a new setting that gives people the choice to decide which addresses they want to show on their timelines."
Facebook shares closed down 3 percent at $32.06 on Monday, still more than 15 percent off of its May offering price despite a rebound in recent weeks.
