Muscadet Is Here to Stay | Drink Like a Pro

Wine lovers are fond of ?geeking out? over their bottles. Heck, you?re probably guilty of that yourself (we know we are) ? not that there?s anything wrong with that. But sometimes, you just want a good, easy bottle that doesn?t need to be analyzed or paired perfectly to be appreciated. That?s where Muscadet comes in.

?Really, this is a drinking wine in France ? it doesn?t need to be paired with food to be properly enjoyed,? says Tyler Balliet, President and Founder of Second Glass, the organization so wild about wine, they put on several wine riots all over the country. Crisp, dry and refreshing, Muscadets are similar to a Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio, though they?re much more specific to this particular region of France. The Melon de Bourgogne grape only grows in this part of the Loire Valley, a wine growing region that Balliet happens to think is full of ?undiscovered sleeper hits.? ?None of this wine is mass produced and because of the strict laws that govern wine making in France, it?s essentially organic as well,? he notes. The best part though? It?s ridiculously inexpensive. ?All the bottles you are going to come across are going to be in the $8 to $15 dollar range, and they?re all going to be rock star bottles.? When it comes down to it, Balliet says, ?this is a really good wine you don?t have to think a whole lot about.?

The folks from Second Glass are also making it really easy for you to try this delicious wine for yourself. From now through the end of the month, restaurants and wine shops all over the Greater Boston area will be hosting special tastings. And, on Saturday, October 20th they?ll be throwing, Muscadet Shuck Yeah!, a wine and oyster tasting party (because Muscadet gets along so swimmingly with seafood and as Balliet quipped ?seafood is expensive, the wine doesn?t need to be?). Check the full listing of retail events coming up below, and head online to buy your Shuck Yeah tickets. We think, given the season of impromptu get-togethers ahead of us (read: the holidays) we?re going to go out and buy a few bottles to have on hand. Just in case.
